The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce its Players of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 21st. Two young stars—one already a cornerstone, the other rapidly emerging—powered their clubs with dominant performances at the plate.

Federal League – Jim Thome (Kansas City Royals)
Kansas City Royals first baseman Jim Thome, 25, showcased his power and consistency at the plate to earn Federal League Player of the Week honors. Thome collected 8 hits in 19 at-bats (.421 average), blasting 4 home runs and driving in 5 RBIs. His performance added to a strong start to the season in which he is batting .319 with 9 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 15 runs scored in 19 games. Already a fan favorite in Kansas City, Thome continues to show he is one of the premier young sluggers in the league.

United League – Alex Rodriguez (Washington Senators)
At just 20 years old, Washington shortstop Alex Rodriguez continues to live up to the hype as one of the game’s brightest rising stars. Rodriguez torched opposing pitching last week with a .417 average (10-for-24), adding 6 home runs and 11 RBIs to claim the United League Player of the Week Award. For the season, Rodriguez is hitting .357 with 7 home runs, 15 RBIs, 25 hits in 70 at-bats, 14 runs scored, and a .418 OBP. His explosive start has quickly established him as a central figure in Washington’s offense and one of the most exciting young players in the DBL.

Both Thome and Rodriguez represent the future of the game, and their outstanding weeks provided a glimpse of just how high their ceilings may be.

Congratulations to Jim Thome and Alex Rodriguez on their Player of the Week honors.
