The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending August 4, 1996.

United League – Dante Bichette (Seattle Pilots)
Seattle’s veteran right fielder Dante Bichette delivered a powerful week at the plate, earning United League Player of the Week honors. The 32-year-old slugger hit .391 (9-for-23) with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 7 runs scored over seven games. Bichette’s timely hitting and run production helped fuel Seattle’s offense throughout the week. On the season, he is batting .256 with 20 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 48 runs scored in 104 games.

Federal League – Brian S. Giles (St. Louis Cardinals)
St. Louis right fielder Brian Giles continued his breakout season with another exceptional performance, capturing the Federal League Player of the Week award. The 25-year-old hit .385 (10-for-26) with 6 home runs, 10 RBIs, and 11 runs scored, proving once again to be one of the league’s most dangerous hitters. For the year, Giles is batting .324 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, 91 runs scored, and a .414 on-base percentage in 429 at-bats.

Both Bichette and Giles showcased elite offensive power and consistency, further fueling their teams’ momentum as the season moves into its final stretch.
