United League – Mark McGwire (Detroit Tigers)
Detroit’s Mark McGwire continued his powerful 1996 campaign by earning United League Player of the Week honors. The 32-year-old first baseman was a force at the plate, hitting .500 (5-for-10) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs in just three games. McGwire’s trademark power continues to fuel Detroit’s offense as he maintains a .260 average with 31 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 55 runs scored across 96 games this season.
Federal League – Carlos Delgado (Texas Rangers)
For the second straight week, Texas slugger Carlos Delgado has been recognized as the league’s top performer, capturing Federal League Player of the Week honors once again. The 24-year-old first baseman matched McGwire’s production with a .500 average (5-for-10), 3 home runs, 5 RBIs, and 5 runs scored. Delgado continues to shine as one of the DBL’s most dangerous hitters, boasting a .248 average with 36 home runs, 92 RBIs, and 69 runs scored over 98 games.
Both McGwire and Delgado showcased their elite power and consistency this week, reminding fans why they rank among the most feared hitters in the game.
