The leagues have announced their Players of the Week, spotlighting two veterans who delivered thunderous performances in limited opportunities.
In the Federal League, Lenny Webster of Charlotte put together one of the most efficient weeks of the season. The 32-year-old catcher hit an eye-popping .750 (6-for-8) across two games, launching 2 home runs and driving in 4 RBIs to earn Federal League Player of the Week honors.
On the season, Webster is batting .255 with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs, and 6 runs scored — but last week, every swing seemed to find barrel.
Over in the United League, Joe Randa of the Los Angeles Dodgers announced himself in a big way. The 27-year-old third baseman punished opposing pitching with a .391 average (9-for-23), blasting 4 home runs and driving in 13 RBIs to secure United League Player of the Week recognition.
Currently, Randa is hitting .313 with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 19 runs scored, and if last week was any indication, he may just be getting started.
Two leagues, two standout weeks — and two hitters who made sure the baseball world took notice.
