The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce its Players of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 5th. Two powerful left fielders—one a rising star, the other a proven veteran—stood out with dominant offensive performances.
United League – Manny Ramírez (San Diego Padres)
At just 23 years old, Manny Ramírez is quickly proving he belongs among the league’s brightest young stars. The San Diego Padres left fielder earned United League Player of the Week honors after batting .462 (12-for-26) with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. For the season, Ramírez is hitting .331 with 9 home runs, 27 RBIs, 30 runs scored, 41 hits, and a .413 OBP, cementing himself as a key piece of San Diego’s lineup.
Federal League – Darryl Strawberry (Cleveland Spiders)
Veteran slugger Darryl Strawberry, 34, showed he still has plenty of thunder in his bat, taking home Federal League Player of the Week honors. The Cleveland left fielder hit .414 (12-for-29), blasting 7 home runs and driving in 10 RBIs while scoring 8 runs. On the season, Strawberry now has 13 home runs and 22 RBIs, proving he remains a dangerous presence in the heart of Cleveland’s order.
