The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending September 15, 1996.

United League – Ken Griffey Jr. (Seattle Pilots)
Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr. continues to dominate opposing pitching, earning the United League Player of the Week Award after another explosive stretch at the plate. The 26-year-old center fielder hit .423 (11-for-26) with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs, and 9 runs scored over six games, posting a .444 on-base percentage in the process. For the season, Griffey Jr. is batting .313 with 177 hits, 61 home runs, 139 RBIs, and 123 runs scored—continuing what has been one of the most remarkable offensive campaigns in league history.

Federal League – Tim Salmon (Orlando Dolphins)
Orlando right fielder Tim Salmon powered his way to the Federal League Player of the Week Award with a strong all-around showing. The 28-year-old slugger batted .348 (8-for-23) with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs, and 7 runs scored, providing steady production in the middle of the Dolphins’ lineup. For the year, Salmon is hitting .251 with 26 home runs, 72 RBIs, and 143 games played.

Both Griffey Jr. and Salmon showcased the offensive talent and consistency that define the league’s best hitters as the regular season enters its final weeks.
