The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending September 22, 1996.

United League – Dean Palmer (Toronto Blue Jays)
Toronto third baseman Dean Palmer powered his way to the United League Player of the Week Award after a thunderous performance at the plate. The 27-year-old slugger hit .350 (7-for-20) with 6 home runs and 11 RBIs across six games, continuing to showcase his elite power bat. For the season, Palmer is hitting .220 with 34 home runs, 87 RBIs, and 72 runs scored—proving to be a key run producer in the Blue Jays’ lineup.

Federal League – Kent Hrbek (Chicago Cubs)
Chicago veteran Kent Hrbek showed that experience and perseverance still pay off, earning the Federal League Player of the Week honors. The 36-year-old first baseman was nearly unstoppable at the plate, batting .529 (9-for-17) with 3 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 5 runs scored. Hrbek’s remarkable season continues as he’s hitting .278 with 42 home runs and 114 RBIs—one of the finest campaigns of his storied career.

Both players delivered dominant offensive performances, demonstrating that power and consistency remain key ingredients in the league’s closing weeks.
