Texas Rangers will relocate to Milwaukee, Wisconsin

After more than two decades as one of the DBL’s original franchises, the Texas Rangers have announced that they will relocate following the conclusion of the 1996 season. Beginning with the 1997 campaign, the organization will make its new home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they will take the field as the Milwaukee Creams.

The move not only marks a new chapter for the franchise but also reconnects Milwaukee with a historic baseball identity.

The Milwaukee Creams name dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the original Creams competed in several minor leagues between 1889 and 1913. They played in the Western Association, the Western League, and the Wisconsin–Illinois League, calling Borchert Field and Lloyd Street Grounds home. Baseball legends Clark Griffith and Hugh Duffy both spent time with the early Creams — Griffith as a player in 1889, and Duffy as player/manager in 1902–03.
The return of the Creams’ name brings a piece of baseball history back to life.

In addition to the DBL relocation, the organization has also announced changes within its developmental system: The Hugg Baseball League affiliate will be relocating from Round Rock to Idaho Falls, where they will be rebranded as the Idaho Falls Chukars.

Both moves reflect a broad restructuring within the organization as they prepare for the next era of baseball in Milwaukee and Idaho Falls. The league welcomes the Creams and the Chukars and looks forward to seeing these new chapters unfold in 1997 and beyond.
