The Office of the Commissioner of the Doubleday Baseball League today announced that the Washington Senators have clinched a playoff berth and secured the United League East Division Championship for the 1996 season.

This marks the second consecutive postseason appearance for Washington and the fifth overall since the franchise joined the league in 1985. The Senators made the playoffs previously in 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1995.

Last season, Washington earned their spot as a Wild Card team. This year, the club went one step further—capturing the division title outright and securing their place among the league’s elite.

With the division championship, the Senators have completed one of the franchise’s strongest regular seasons to date and will represent the United League East Division in the upcoming postseason.
