Senators Bridle Orioles, 2-1
|
The Washington Senators got a good effort from starter Andy Pettitte in defeating the Baltimore Orioles at RFK Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Pettitte, now 5-9, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Troy Percival earned his 21st save in 25 chances.
One consequential at-bat came in the bottom of the second. With the bases empty, the batter, Jon Nunnally, hit a solo home run. It made the score 2-1, Washington, and helped them go on to win.
"We take it day by day here," said Nunnally, "and today was a good one for us."
The Senators have an impressive 54-32 record.
