Yankees Sneak Past Braves, 6-5
|
The New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves, 6-5, at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Paul Sorrento, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. New York reliever Andy Ashby picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-2. Cris Carpenter was collared with the loss. With the victory, the Yankees record now stands at 35-58.
Sorrento had a game-changing single in the top of the 14th. On a full count fastball from Cris Carpenter, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Yankees a 6-5 lead. It was the 42nd hit of the year for Sorrento.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Sorrento told the New York Today.
