Cardinals Lose to Royals in Walk Off
The Kansas City Royals did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Royals Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Rick Reed, who captured player of the game honors. The first-place Royals have won 5 in a row.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Quilvio Veras came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing St. Louis pitcher Steve Olin, he hit a 2-2 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 5-4.

"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Veras said.
