Tigers Lose, 7-1, at Jack Murphy Stadium
|
The exploits of first baseman Tony Clark, who is rated as the 6th best prospect by BNN, helped the San Diego Padres defeat the Detroit Tigers, 7-1. Clark went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Mark Langston went 5.2 innings for San Diego to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 9. His record improves to 7-5. Steve Howe, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.
Clark had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the second inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Padres went on to win.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds.
With the win, San Diego goes to 50-52, while the Tigers fall to 36-64.
