Dominant Performance by Smoltz in Orlando Win
|
In a low-scoring game between Orlando and St. Louis, pitcher John Smoltz was excellent. The Orlando right-hander was named the player of the game in Orlando's 3-1 win. Rod Beck notched his 19th save in 22 chances. The Sun Rays bumped their record to 56-50 with this latest triumph.
Smoltz, a native of Detroit, Michigan, was dealing all game. He kept St. Louis hitters off-balance, while giving the Sun Rays 8 quality innings. Smoltz threw 102 pitches, allowing 2 hits and striking out 11.
"John was throwing free and easy," said Orlando manager Ben Tennyson.
