Padres Stymie Montreal, Take 3-0 Win
|
San Diego starter Ismael Valdez put a stranglehold on the Montreal offense. The right-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Padres to a 3-0 win. Even with the win, the Padres have a dismal 40-78 record.
It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Kurt Abbott, the 25-year old shortstop . Abbott contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Abbott told a San Diego News reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
