Knights Get Past New York for 4-3 Win
|
The Charlotte Knights got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Scott Bankhead, but it was good enough for the club to take a 4-3 decision over the New York Yankees. The winner was Todd Worrell in relief. His record improves to 2-6. Mike Henneman took the loss. Tim Burke got the save, his 14th in 16 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Tony Batista came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Mike Henneman, he hit a 1-0 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charlotte on top, 4-3.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Bankhead.
The Knights, now 62-58, have won 5 in a row.
