The Orlando Devil Rays got a sterling performance from pitcher Randy Tomlin, but the Red Sox still prevailed, 6-2. Tomlin was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Boston reliever Doug Bochtler picked up the win, upping his record to 1-4. Randy Tomlin was saddled with the loss. The Red Sox improve their record to 47-75 with the win over Orlando.

In the bottom of the eighth, Boston left fielder Barry Bonds had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, Bonds stroked a 2-run double to right-center. It made the score 4-2, Boston. For the game, he was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
