Senators Spellbound, Correa Hurls No-Hitter
|
Montreal Expos starter Ed Correa said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Correa recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Montreal right-hander no-hit the Washington Senators 1-0 at Olympic Stadium, finishing with 4 walks and 10 strikeouts, facing only 29 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Correa admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
So far this year Correa has 9 wins and 6 losses and a 3.41 ERA.
