Multi-HR Game for Saenz in 12-2 Win
The New York Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers, 12-2, in United League action at Tiger Stadium, with New York designated hitter Olmedo Saenz named player of the game. The Mets have an impressive 79-47 record.

With New York leading 3-1 in the top of the fifth, Saenz hit a fastball from Jim Neidlinger for a bases-clearing double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Mets ahead, 6-1.

Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo called the blowout loss "just something that happens from time to time."
