Cubs Solve Royals, 4-2
|
The Cubs had to overcome a fine performance from Kansas City pitcher Kevin Brown to grab a 4-2 win at Royals Stadium. Brown allowed 4 earned runs over 9 innings. At 70-57, Chicago is in third place in the Federal League Central Division.
Luis Gonzalez was a prime factor in the win for the Cubs. In the top of the third with no one out, the former first round draft pick hit a run-scoring single. He went 2-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Chicago skipper Anthony Perez. "I can't complain."
