Marlins Get Road Win, 3-2
|
The Florida Marlins managed to get by the Texas Rangers, 3-2, at Arlington Stadium. Florida pitcher Al Leiter took player of the game honors. Leiter, now 8-9, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Bryan Harvey got the save, his 37th in 41 chances.
Matt Williams put Florida in front, 3-0, when he took Kenny Rogers downtown. His 2-run home run came with two out in the top of the third. It was his 14th home run of the season.
Williams called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Florida goes to 80-49. The win puts them 8½ games up in their division.
