Rockies Come Back Late, Nip Orioles
|
The Rockies faced a stiff challenge from Baltimore pitcher Jose DeLeon, but persevered to claim a win at Mile High Stadium. The final score was 6-5. DeLeon went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Brett Gideon, credited with the win, is now 4-5. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The Rockies are now 61-69, while the Orioles fall to 58-72.
Juan Gonzalez, who finished 3rd in the UL in OPS with .907 in 1993, chipped in for Colorado with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Gonzalez, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
