The Orlando Devil Rays picked up a win at Joe Robbie Stadium, knocking off the Florida Marlins, 6-2. Starting pitcher John Smoltz played a key role in the triumph. Frank DiPino earned his 15th save in 20 chances. The Devil Rays bumped their record to 70-66 with this latest triumph.

It could have been a different outcome for Orlando, had it not been for Jose Valentin, the 27-year old shortstop . Valentin contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put Orlando up, 3-0.

"We looked pretty good up and down," said Orlando manager Ben Tennyson.
