Red Sox Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Red Sox had to overcome a fine performance from Cincinnati pitcher Mike Mussina to grab a 2-1 win at Riverfront Stadium. Mussina allowed 2 earned runs over 9 innings. The winner was Boston reliever Aaron Small, now 2-1. The loser was Mike Mussina. Today's win puts Boston at 47-89, while Cincinnati falls to 82-54.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Bret Barberie to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Red Sox the lead, 2-1. For the game, Barberie had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments, Barberie said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
