Higuera, Chicago Start League Championship Strong with Home Win
The League Championship got off to a quiet start today, with the host Chicago Cubs taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Chicago left-hander Teddy Higuera was marvelous at Wrigley Field and was named player of the game. The Cubs now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

In his 138-pitch effort, Higuera allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits over 7.1 innings. He walked 4 and struck out 9.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Higuera said.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in Chicago. Slated to start are Dave Fleming for the St. Louis Cardinals and Jeff D. Robinson for the the Chicago Cubs.
