The Hartford Whalers managed to get by the Jacksonville Suns, 8-7, at Field of the Running Rebels. Hartford first baseman Todd Walker took player of the game honors. The first-place Whalers now have a 7-game winning streak.

It could have been a different outcome for Hartford, had it not been for Mark Kotsay, the 21-year old center fielder . Kotsay contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Hartford up, 8-7.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Walker.
