Red Wings Continue Skid Thanks to Widger, Slammers
|
Southeast catcher Chris Widger made his presence felt in the 5-4 Slammers triumph over the Rochester Red Wings. Widger was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Doug Johns was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Southeast has now won 5 straight.
Widger contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Southeast in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Widger took a sinker from Brad Woodall and stroked the home run to left-center. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Slammers to leap in front, 2-1.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Widger said.
