Red Wings Need Extra Frames to Get Past Slammers
|
Southeast got a terrific performance from pitcher Scott Scudder, but it wasn't enough to beat the Rochester Red Wings. Rochester won the Ravens Ballpark contest, 6-4. Scudder was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball. Reliever Jim Pena picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Ricardo Jordan took the loss. Russ Springer was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.
Rochester used the timely hitting of Randel Young to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Wings on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Games like this one keep the antacid makers in business," quipped Southeast manager .
Even with the win, the Red Wings have a dismal 7-55 record.
