Devil Rays Win Thriller, 5-3
|
Well, that's how to end a game in style.
The Charlotte Knights got a superb performance from pitcher Scott Bankhead. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Orlando. The Devil Rays won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Bankhead was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. The Devil Rays, now 12-6, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Tim Salmon, who finished 2nd in the UL in OPS with .963 in 1994, chipped in for Orlando with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Salmon.
