The St. Louis Cardinals got a stellar performance from pitcher Scott Erickson, who handcuffed the Boston offense en route to a 3-2 win at Fenway Park. Picking up the save was Steve Chitren, his 2nd. The win moves St. Louis to a record of 10-9.

John Valentin helped his team take an early lead with a bases-clearing double. It came in the first inning, making the score 3-0, Cardinals.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Valentin said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
