Canate Leads Slammers to Win over Clippers
The Southeast Slammers bested the Columbus Clippers by a score of 16-9, with left fielder Willie Canate getting the main credit. On the day, Canate went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for the Slammers. Doug Johns picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 6-3. Southeast is now 33-44.

The Slammers got a big at-bat from first baseman Gene Schall, who in the top of the fourth hit a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Slammers on top, 9-3.

"It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Canate said.
