Blue Crabs Sneak Past Whalers, 8-7
|
The inspired effort of Hartford first baseman Ricky Gutierrez was not enough to prevent a 8-7 loss to the Ocean City Blue Crabs. Gutierrez was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The winner was Ocean City reliever Sean Maloney, now 1-1. The loser was Brady Raggio. Ocean City is now 49-38.
It could have been a different outcome for Ocean City, had it not been for Pedro Valdes, the 24-year old left fielder . Valdes contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Ocean City up, 8-7.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Valdes, "but we got it done."
