Victory Over Suns Takes Buffalo to 65-43
|
The Buffalo Bisons did just enough to sneak past the Jacksonville Suns, 4-3, at Field of the Running Rebels. Buffalo pitcher John H. Doherty earned player of the game honors. In 7.2 innings, Doherty surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Tim Fortugno notched his 23rd save in 27 chances.
Kevin Young had a big run-scoring single for the Bisons in the top of the seventh inning. With Buffalo leading 3-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Jack McDowell and stroked the single to center. It was his 140th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bisons ahead, 4-0.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Jacksonville manager , "let me know."
Buffalo, at 65-43, occupies second place in the Atlantic Northeast.
