Mud Hens Prevail, 4-2, Over Rochester
|
The Toledo Mud Hens trumped the Rochester Red Wings, 4-2, at Ballpark of Ft. Lauderdale. Toledo center fielder J.R. Phillips was named player of the game for his performance. He went 1 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Toledo reliever Doug Creek picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-1. Chris Gardner was collared with the loss. Mike James notched his 20th save in 27 chances.
Phillips contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Toledo in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Phillips took a cutter from Chris Gardner and stroked the home run to right. His 13th home run of the season allowed the Mud Hens to leap in front, 2-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Toledo manager .
Toledo, at 30-83, occupies 5th place in the Atlantic Northeast.
