The New Orleans Brass defeated the Portland Stag, 7-6, at Tuttle Fields. New Orleans center fielder Marvin Benard was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. New Orleans reliever Mark Brandenburg was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Chuck Ricci took the loss. With the loss, Portland drops to 1-4.
Benard had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a full count forkball from Chuck Ricci, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Brass a 7-6 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Benard.
In postgame comments, Benard said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
