Stag Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
Portland beat New Orleans on the strength of starter Scott Karl's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 8-3 win. Karl, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. The Stag, with just their 2nd win so far in 1995, have yet to catch fire.

Wes Chamberlain had a productive at-bat for the Stag with two out in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, the left fielder hit a bases-clearing double. The at-bat was important in the Portland win.

"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Chamberlain.
