Hot Start Continues for Brass
|
The New Orleans Brass topped the Portland Stag, 6-1, in Pacific action at Bay Hawks Ballpark. The player of the game was New Orleans pitcher LaTroy Hawkins. The winning pitcher was Hawkins, now 2-0. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. The Brass, now 6-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
The Brass got an important contribution from center fielder Cecil Espy, who in the bottom of the second knocked a 2-2 fastball into left for a run-scoring double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Brass ahead, 2-0.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Hawkins said after the game.
