It was a good time at Texans Stadium, where fans came to watch the Portland Stag and San Antonio Missions get after it.

San Antonio pitcher Jeff Pico did his part in helping his team beat the Portland Stag, 3-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winning pitcher was Pico, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Picking up the save was Terry Mathews, his 3rd.

San Antonio catcher Mike Matheny contributed to the cause with a single in the bottom of the third. For the game, Matheny went 3 for 3 with 3 singles.

"We'll build on this win," said Matheny.

The Missions, now 5-10, have not found much traction so far in 1997.
