Rainiers Rally For Late Win Over Lazy Fisherman
|
Behind the bravura of first baseman Ron Coomer, the Tacoma Rainiers topped the Naperville Lazy Fisherman by the score of 7-5. Coomer was 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Rainiers. Tacoma reliever Jeff Wallace picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Carlos C. Maldonado took the loss. Tavo Alvarez locked down his 2nd save.
The Rainiers got an important contribution from left fielder Chito Martinez, who in the top of the eighth knocked a first pitch forkball into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Rainiers ahead, 7-5.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Coomer said.
The Lazy Fisherman fall to 8-10 and continue their lackluster start to the 1997 season.
