Lazy Fisherman Stun Rainiers, 6-5
|
Tacoma got a terrific performance from pitcher Greg Keagle, but it wasn't enough to beat the Naperville Lazy Fisherman. Naperville won the Ballpark of Milton contest, 6-5. Keagle was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Naperville reliever Jerry DiPoto got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Tavo Alvarez was tagged with the loss. Blas Minor closed the game out for Naperville, earning his 4th save.
The Lazy Fisherman used some clutch hitting to beat the Rainiers, a good example being the at-bat of Gary Bennett in the bottom of the eighth. With two down, Bennett gave his team the lead, 6-5, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Naperville manager .
The Rainiers fall to 8-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.
