Stag Win Thriller, 1-0
|
The Portland Stag picked up a win at Tuttle Fields, knocking off the Tucson Tarantulas, 1-0. Starting pitcher Scott Karl played a key role in the triumph. Portland reliever Chuck Ricci was credited with the win, to go to 2-2. James Baldwin took the loss for Tucson. Portland, now 7-11, is off to a slow start.
Portland took the lead with one out in the bottom of the ninth when Mike Mordecai stroked a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0 in favor of Portland. For the day, Mordecai was 1 for 3 with a walk.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Portland manager said.
