Portland got a terrific game from shortstop Mike Mordecai. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Tucson, 5-4. Mordecai was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. The Stag fall to 7-12 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1995 season.

Ray Giannelli chipped in for Tucson, stroking a crucial run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning. For the game, the third baseman went 2-4 with 2 doubles.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Portland manager . "But we decided not to take it."
