Tucson got a terrific performance from designated hitter Sean Berry, but it wasn't enough to beat the Portland Stag. Portland won the Tuttle Fields contest, 4-3. Berry was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Portland is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 8th in 20 games.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Portland center fielder Milt Thompson, facing Bill Caudill, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Stag the 4-3 win.
"It was a good effort all around," said Thompson.
