Meulens drives in 3 runs, Storm Chasers Move to 24-8
|
The Omaha Storm Chasers grabbed a 17-5 win over the Tacoma Rainiers at Maples Stadium. Omaha shortstop Hensley Meulens was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 to earn player of the game honors. Tom Rowe was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. The Storm Chasers improved to a lofty 24-8.
Phil B. Clark had a big 2-run single for the Storm Chasers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Omaha leading 5-4 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Cliff Brantley and stroked the single to right. It was his 44th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Storm Chasers ahead, 7-4.
"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Clark after the game.
