Rainiers Drop Another One
|
Portland right-hander Bill C. Swift made an effective start against the Tacoma Rainiers at Premont Grounds, leading his team to a 4-1 win. Swift, now 3-10, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Gary Haught earned the save for Portland, his 1st.
It could have been a different outcome for Portland, had it not been for Wes Chamberlain, the 31-year old right fielder . Chamberlain contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put Portland up, 1-0.
"I had everything working," said Swift.
The Rainiers, now 26-40, have lost 5 straight.
