Ed Sprague Jr. knocked in 3 runs to help Portland beat Tacoma, 8-2. Sprague Jr. produced 1 single and 1 home run. Scott Karl got credit for the win, improving to 5-3. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings. Rich Batchelor picked up the save for Portland, his 1st of the year.
With Portland leading 5-2 in the top of the ninth, Sprague Jr. hit a fastball from Brian Boehringer for a 3-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Stag ahead, 8-2.
"We played hard and won," said Sprague Jr.. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
