Stag Get Win, Extend Streak to 8
|
Marvin Benard had a good game, but he could not keep the New Orleans Brass from falling, 11-7, to the Portland Stag at Tuttle Fields. The New Orleans center fielder went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times in the loss. The save was credited to Chuck Ricci, his 18th. The first-place Stag have won 8 straight.
The Stag got an important contribution from left fielder Wes Chamberlain, who in the bottom of the sixth stroked a 0-1 curveball into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 23rd double of the season and put the Stag ahead, 8-5.
"We've got a great group of guys," Chamberlain said, "and we're having fun right now."
