Brass Bang Out 6-5 Win Versus Portland
|
New Orleans starter LaTroy Hawkins pitched effectively against the Portland Stag at Bay Hawks Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a 6-5 win. Hawkins, now 9-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. New Orleans goes to 45-30. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
Doing his part for New Orleans was designated hitter Wilson Delgado, who stroked a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second. For the game, Delgado went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Delgado said.
