Despite a fine performance by third baseman Fernando Tatis, the Portland Stag suffered a 5-4 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers. Tatis was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. Tacoma reliever Kevin Wickander picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Carlos Castillo shouldered the loss. Jeff Wallace notched his 3rd save in 6 chances.

Tacoma catcher Greg O'Halloran had a key at-bat for the Rainiers in the top of the eighth inning. Facing Portland pitcher Dilson Torres, O'Halloran hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-4, Tacoma. For the day, he was 1 for 3 with a double.

O'Halloran told a Tacoma Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

Their 38-63 record puts the Rainiers last in the Pacific West.
