Multi-HR Day for Greene as Senators Overpower Tigers, 8-6
Willie Greene made an impact in the 8-6 Washington win over Detroit. Greene, who is on pace for 101 RBI this season, hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The win was credited to Jim Poole in relief. His record improves to 1-3. Francisco Oliveras took the loss. Washington is now 87-48, 5½ games up in the United League East Division.

An important at-bat for Washington came with one out in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Greene hit a 3-run home run, which contributed to the Senators win.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Alexander Cumana said.
