Mordecai Hits 2 home runs in Stag Win
|
The Portland Stag saddled the New Orleans Brass with a loss at Bay Hawks Ballpark. The final score was 5-3. Mike Mordecai, named player of the game, was 3 for 3, including 1 single and 2 home runs. The Portland designated hitter scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Chuck Ricci got the save, his 25th in 26 chances. The first-place Stag have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Mordecai had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 0-2 fastball from Mark Brandenburg, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Stag a 5-3 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Mordecai.
Mordecai said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
