Rainiers Score Late to Upend Tarantulas, 7-6
The Tacoma Rainiers beat the Tucson Tarantulas, 7-6, at Premont Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Randy Velarde, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. The losing skid has reached 11 games for Tucson.

The Rainiers beat the Tarantulas with some clutch hitting. The single by Tim Hyers in the bottom of the eighth is a good example. With two down, Hyers gave his team the lead, 7-6, when he came through with the big hit.

"We found a way to get it done," Velarde said.
