Portland beat Salt Lake City on the strength of starter Omar Olivares's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-2 win. Olivares picked up the win for Portland, going 8 innings. Portland used the timely hitting of Jeff Kunkel to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stag ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
